Firing Squad Feb 17, 2009: We’ve Been Framed

By • Feb 17th, 2009 • Category: Photo Battle

After a few weeks of XXX action we decided to take things back to a PG-13 level. This week’s battle has plenty of similarities between the two photos, but also plenty of differences. Is black and white more interesting than color, or vice versa? Is a park shot worthy of a homemade jib? Someone is going home with a new pair of Dakine gloves and as always, you decide.

  2. Photo #2 is great. Good color, cool composition and Airblaster pants. Winner!

  3. close call, but the first one because everything is framed cleaner
second one has better color, it pops more, which makes the first one stand out less next to it

  4. The boardslide is extra proper, and black & white for our roots. we ain’t need no colah sun

  5. im def. feelin photo 1
    contrast, timing, framing all crazy
    photo 2 is sick though
both great moments, but good b&w have a special place in my fuzzy zone

  7. I think photo 1 has a stronger composition, the piece of wood that is out of focus in photo 2 just isn’t working for me. Don’t get me wrong; the golden light in photo 2 is really nice to look at but photo 1 also has that nice outer glow around the riders arm and hair line. Plus black and white holds a special place in my heart too. Although one thing that is a little distracting to me in photo 1 is that random upper right white corner which looks like might just be a sign on the fence or something? However at the same time it kind of just gives the viewer another something to look at, and it makes you wonder what the hell it is.

  8. By the way, I think it’s funny that the last 3 or 4 photos I have voted for on this site have lost the battle.

  9. And I’m starting to think that random piece of wood in photo 2 actually works as a good implied line, so now I’m confused. They’re both cool photos.

  10. No arms in the second photo.

  11. Seriously? Are you people fucking retarded? No contest. Photo 1 SUCKS. it’s a shitty little park rail, the dude’s falling off, bad style, straight legs, mediocre compostion, and black and white is for fags. Photo 2 isn’t the best photo I’ve ever seen, but it’s far better than that other piece of crap.

  12. Oh, and I forgot to mention that the trick sucks, and should have never been shot. Whoever the photographer is needs to put all their gear on ebay and get a job at the Home Depot selling vacuum cleaners, because they know everything there is to know about SUCKING!

  13. the framing in the first has nothing to do with the subject, the photo makes no sense and the fence is just totally distracting, the second has great colour and alot better composition in general, background snow is blown out but who cares

  14. 1#’s framing is just bliss

  15. I like the first one simply because B&W is a true man’s medium…….and there’s no gay pink logo’s.

  16. ya the first one is a better photo for sure framing is amazing although the second one is a cooler trick but its a photo contest not a trick contest PHOTO 1for sure

  17. thank you Este’s Ghost, i am over this fagblaster shit. i think i saw pootie tang working at Home Depot in the stud section, he is so cool! both photos are great, but the B&W is much stronger!

  19. looks like keegan in the first photo. Second one, throw a random piece of wood in half the frame and win? I dont think so. I dont even know what trick is being performed. Numero uno is classy, might be park, might be a mellow down rail, but it’s well done. Pootie and suck it.

  20. pootie tang is obviously a young angry snowboarder with a lot to learn.. Photo 1 is dope. basic trick to a great photo. Both are very similar with foreground and orientation but the black and white should take it.
