Firing Squad: February 24, 2008

By • Feb 24th, 2009 • Category: Photo Battle

This week’s photo was chosen to go against last week’s winning image due to the similar color palate and style of snowboarding. Honestly, I am not sure which one will win! Will we have a two time winner, or a new photo continue on? You choose so exercise your right and vote.

  1. Photo #2 has some horrible formatting/compression effects going on. Not sure this is fair.

  4. yeah but the first one looks like a videograb, like the dolley isnt quite where it should be and as a result theres a big out of focus thing to distract you

  6. similar color palate? you cant compare manufagtured pink to the pinks of a sunset! i bet those are old flashes with no settings, full power.

photo 1. daytime, natural light, rule of thirds, heavy foreground, no sky, ect.
photo 2. sunset, multi-flash, centerd, strong background, ect.

i bet there’s some more similar photos zimmerman’s holding out on.

  7. gotta go with photo one. reasons?
1: Context. It’s too obvious what the guy in photo 2 is doing, and where he’s going.
2: Tricks. #2′s just hanging out on the rail. #1 is up in the air, and it’s hard to say exactly what’s going on.
4: Sky. Nobody wins, I don’t see a bold, blue American sky. What the fuck is this, Canada?
5: Framing. The rule isn’t “take-off, trick, landing, sky.” Rule of threes, not rule of fucking fours.
6: Timing. Come on! The dude’s just hanging out on the rail. Whoop-dee-do! Both of these guys missed “the moment” at take-off or immediately before landing, that make-or-break split-second!

Somebody didn’t pay attention to my lessons.

  9. photo #2 demonstrates thinking outside the box, for example; I quite like knowing where he’s going, I’m simple like that and the mountains give a nice contrast between the ‘I’m on a man made object’ with a ‘I’m in the mountains’ backdrop. and plus think of the possibilities, if its red sky at night then shepherd’s delight and he probably back flipped out, but if its in the morning, maybe he bit it at the end eh?

  11. I agree with Jay, great spot but the angle just kills it for me.

  12. it looks like theres some water in the second one…if that would have been incorporated into the picture more i bet the colors from the water would be phenomenal.
