Firing Squad: May 26, 2009

By • May 26th, 2009 • Category: Photo Battle

Skate-style shots have been dominating the battles lately, but is doing skate tricks on a snowboard really photo worthy? Well, the only way to tell is to put the winning shot against a real, legitimately gnarly skate shot. A lot of people wouldn’t drop in on the ledge in the challenger’s shot on a snowboard, but is that what makes a good photo? We’ll leave up to you, the readers, to decide.

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

Think you can do better? Then quit your bitching. The Firing Squad is a weekly photo competition. Winners of a single battle will receive a pair of Da Kine gloves and should a photo survive 4 weeks, the photographer receives a place in the Champions Gallery and a Da Kine Camera Pack. 1. The skate shot all the way…The consequences on concrete & urethane outweigh Ptex & snow. The scale is much better as well..Champ makes good on something small…Challenger makes good on something big and a bit scary for sure. Did he make it is the ?

  2. Photo wise I like the skate. its just a classic awesome skate shot.

  3. Even though I like the idea, scenario etc. for the skate shot better, the photograph itself is not as well-taken
I guess the lighting on the skate shot makes all the different, the skater is way too dark, it’s as if the lighted big triangle is more important than him

  4. Skate… both pics are lit & framed with the obstacle as the focal point. And pretty much the skate obstacle would be comparable to some massive glacial ice straightline, not a little jib spine.

  5. so happy about the shot this week. something totally unique. photo was taken really well. angles/lighting are almost completely there.. the rider is a little underexposed. and watch out for the horizon. the bottom of that triangle thing should be flat.. that would actually make it look steeper too.. anyways.. glad to see something that looks like it could be in print.

  6. I agree with Darcy on the horizon..if that triangle was flat that would help a bit & actually make the in run steeper. flashes r expensive but if could have lit up what looks like vertical slats in the background on the left, would have added a bit more of a graphic element as well…still a strong photo.

  7. this is the dumbest comp yet. its a photo comp, not a skate vs snowboard comp. the skate shot doesn’t stand out. it may be crappy enough to run in thrasher, seeing that they only print crap. and you’re all guilty of the “skaters are so much gnarlier than us” complex. get over it already.
