It’s a Blow Out

Maybe it’s good Darcy Bacha met a formidable challenger last week with this shot. After all, he’s already won a Dakine Camera Pack. But this shot was so rad, we didn’t want to ignore it, so it got its week in the limelight and will now be retired. Before we bury it in the archives, we figured we’d check in with Darcy to see how it came about.

I randomly met up with my buddy Jamie Jacobson at Windells. Luckily I had just gotten off the hill shooting with Technine and had all my camera stuff with me. I first shot Jamie and Marco in the outdoor bowl, but the rain quickly came and made the concrete impossible to ride on, so we went into Windells indoor skatepark. I normally hate shooting inside this building because it’s so open and creates strange pockets of light everywhere. I decided to dial down all ambient light to create my own canvas. I used a Ranger with a blue gel on the ramp to bring some life to a typically boring wood color,  and the two speed lights to give some shape to Jamie. Stoked on Jamie for getting the handplant, unless you see this ramp its hard to imagine how anyone could possibly get speed to do anything more then a rock on it.

So good effort Darcy. Sorry it didn’t work out better for ya! To see more of Darcy’s work, check out his site darcybachaphotography.com
