So I sat down to type out something about something, when I heard some crazy news that made it hard for me to really focus on whatever BS I was conjuring up. One of our fellow snowboarders/friends Dave Doman has fallen on some hard times, and he needs our collective good wishes to help pull through.
Last week while cruising around on a skateboard in So Cal, Dave fell, hit his head and is currently in a medically induced comma. Crazy. It was a classic “freak accident.” He cruised through a puddle, wheels got wet, they slid, they caught and Dave went down hard. He wasn’t hitting the mega ramp or skating some gnarly pool, he was just going from point A to point B. I instantly thought “What? That’s not fair. Dave got screwed.” Then I realized that “fair” has nothing to do with it. Things just happen, that’s just how it goes sometimes.
You all know Dave, you just may not have officially met him yet. You’ve seen his art all around you as a designer for Celtek, Nitro board graphic contributor and all types of stuff. I met him my first summer at Hood in 2000. I was a counselor from New Hampshire and Dave was a digger from Salt Lake City. He’s a pretty big dude, and I’m a pretty big pussy, so naturally I was a bit scared of him. It turns out there was nothing to be scared of. Dave is one of the funniest people I’ve ever met, a ripping boarder and a gentleman to boot (sometimes).

Dave Doman Art Show at Fice. You missed it. Make up for it by buying a shirt.
It sounds like the doctors prognosis for Dave is positive, but he has a long road ahead of him. He’s in good hands at the hospital he’s at, and Dave is an endlessly talented guy (so I’m sure he’s probably even good at getting out of comas and recovering from head trauma.)
I’m urging you to do one, some or all of these 3 things:
1.) Think about Dave for a moment and mentally send him your best wishes. The more people you got pulling for you it a situation like this, the better. (I’m not sure how the universe works, but I’m pretty sure, there’s some kind of wacky cosmic stuff that allows positive thinking to prevail)
2.) Stop and think about how lucky you are, make the most of your day today and call a few friends or family members you haven’t spoken to in a while and tell them you love them.
3.) Visit Celtek’s web site and check out Dollars for Dave . You can buy a poster and t-shirt featuring Dave’s original art to help raise him some cash money. 100% of the proceeds of the sales go to help Dave with his recovery expenses.
OK, I’m going to order a shirt, turn off this damn computer, go have some fun and hope the best for Dave; because life is f–king awesome (and so is Dave Doman).
Preston Strout over the hill. In a good way.

We’re pulling for you, Dave. This t-shirt looks awesome. I was just thinking how I didn’t have enough t-shirts with boobs on them.
Thanks for the words Preston… nicely said. Dave is totally feeling all the love being sent his way… exceeding every expectation of his doctors and nurses. He has way too much more life to live and art to make!
