Granite Peak Bans Snowboarding! (from three trails)
By admin • Oct 26th, 2009 • Category: News
This just in: Granite Peak ski area in Wisconsin has heard about the resurgence of interest in skiing, and decided to make three of its trails “ski only” for this season. Here’s the reasoning we poached from TWbiz, who did actual research.
The resort, which boasts five terrain parks that president and owner Charles Skinner says are used almost exclusively by snowboarders, has been hearing from a “growing chorus of skiers requesting a few ’skier only’ runs,” says Skinner. “Skiers have told us that the rhythm, turn radius, and visual orientation is different for skiers and snowboarders, and that they would enjoy a few runs dedicated just to skiers. We are now responding to this request by the dedication of three runs for this purpose.”
Whatever. I am not a fan of skiers shushing back and forth of me on cat tracks, or turning perfectly good trails into mogul fields, so I am down with segregation. But it would be cool if while they are at it, they could ban skiers from terrain parks. Those flailing poles when they do their fakies on rails really scare me. And it could be a good experiment, since no one really cares about some ski resort in Wisconsin anyway, do they?

YoBeat: Making Fun of Snowboarding Since 1997

so dumb..so dumb.
As a citizen of Wisconsin I can honestly say that Granite Peak is completely irrelevant.
People still ski? wouldn’t know riding mtn high
We (snowboarders) will just take it in the ass once again on this. So few in the industry have balls to do anything about it, especially the companies that make snowboards and skis (Rossi, K2, Salamon, etc…) With all the Burton hate the past couple of weeks, (I dished out my share towards Burton), at least they had the balls to say fuck you to that type of bullshit.
i always enjoy catching the random tags on these stories…
’shitty resorts i would never go to’ = instant classic
they claim only three runs but looking at the trail map those three runs merge into 3 more that although not listed as skier only are only accessed via the limited trails which in effect makes them skier only as well … good luck trying to enforce this
This doesn’t bother me too much, but I do second the statement that normal skiers should be banned from terrain parks. When I say normal, I’m cool with twin tip people, who have some awareness, but lesson groups and random Joey and Jane families bum me out. They are always standing in the most awkward places. This is especially no fun, if your mountain’s park is pretty flat and keeping speed is crucial. If I could exchange booting them, for loosing a couple groomers, I’m in.
I would gladly give up groomers in exchange for keeping the fucking idiots skiers out of the park.
oh no! what will we do without those three runs??? being from wisco i am so sad. granite peak is the epicenter if snowboarding here… oh wait… no. I have never even heard of this place, but you can guarantee the opening day these will now be poached. out of principle only.
you say youre from wisco but youve never heard of granite peak. you should try riding more than your just your local hill this year. although this ski only thing is complete bullshit, the parks at granite peak are decent (for the midwest of course)
