Firing Squad: October 27, 2009
By Tim Zimmerman • Oct 27th, 2009 • Category: Photo BattleThe reason I hate snowboard photos is the color palette: white and blue. These photos make me hate snowboard photography just a little less than usual. It’s up to you decide which is better: purple or yellow. Vote it up.

Can’t tell where the second bro is going. Good colors though. Champ FTW.
seriously, a bomb drop?
I agree- Wall rides over BD’s!
i thought this was a snowboarding website?
ps.. they’re both gay.
yea Jetty a bombdrop. don’t worry though i can prob ant any spin u got with an extra 7.
It was a great shot that was taken on a shitty day with nothing to work with. big props to JP
I thought it was a photo contest not a “best trick” contest. The challenger set that up well and got an amazing shot. You can tell he worked for it! That’s photography…doin work!
it’s neither a “trick” nor an “effort” contest, its a PHOTO contest. I think the challenger is a sick shot, but the champ just has more going on. Better contrast of colors, more content. The Challenger would be a way better shot if they waited about 30 minutes, and/or for a more overcast evening.
As far as artistry is concerned the lines, colors, shadows and composition in the challenger’s shot are stunning.
That photo calls for some serious respect.
im not seeing what you guys are seeing. looks to me like the rider is landing on a flat peace of snow. photo doesnt really tell me anything.. pretty colors though. Champs got the better photo hands down. a photo editor would print champs before challengers any day
nope the challenger pic is a piece of shit. composed horribly. the colors are cool yea. but what the fuck is he even doing? bomb drop? ollie of the roof? you shouldnt have to ask questions when you look at a photo…the champs lighting is much better and notice the texture of the wall…looks so cool….the challenger looks like the photog could have just photo shopped a backside air in the halfpipe into that photo.
Hey Doucher, you’re calling the challengers pic a piece of shit? That’s a little ridiculous especially if we consider your words: “you shouldnt have to ask questions when you look at a photo”.
If I don’t snowboard, what am I going to ask myself about this picture? Is that a snowboarder doing a trick, or a really confused astronaut on some wacky plank falling off a building. If I don’t know the name of that trick, do I instantly hate a photo? Your point is not very strong other than just being hateful. The composition of the challengers photo is on point. Do you knock photos of a jump at Windells Darcy if you can’t see the landing and maybe they’re jumping into an airbag? Makes no sense. It doesn’t change whether a photos overall impact is there or not. Snowboarding, just like photography, is a creative medium. The champs pic is sick, so is the challengers. Make this contest about artistry, not trickery. Sounds like the guy who posted under the name T is the rider in the pic and he’s claiming pretty hard, what’s your real name?
Thanks Brown my name is Tarjei and yea im claiming pretty hard but i can back it.
like ur saying its not a trick contest its a photo. discussing how difficult the trick in the pic is would be straight out dumb.
i could have taken both of these pictures with my i phone, put em through an app, and they would have looked way steezier then these. who cares anyways, everyone is a photographer. plus snowboarding is just like rollerblading, your all strapped in and shit. why do you need to grab your board to do a bomb drop? i mean your strapped in, you might as well be rollerblading. and yeah, of course your gonna land that wall ride…i mean your strapped in. big deal. id rather watch some sick french film then look at this. like masculine feminine. that movie is tight.
Challenger’s composition just isn’t doing it for me. Too much of, well, nothing. Pretty sky, hmmm I guess, still not swinging my vote.
I’m praying that the post by Jean Luc was a joke by somebody because I nearly pissed myself
JP Lagos?
Yep, it’s my photo. Me and a crew of norwegian shreds sledded up to the radio tower at mt rose on the sketchiest day imaginable. Hadn’t snowed for like a month, 70 mph winds, and pretty much nothing to work with. This shot came together alright. The trick is what it is. The rider, Tarjei Sporastoyl, landed a 1440 on film this summer, so yeah, he can claim. Thanks for all your votes guys! I really like the champs photo too!
