YoBeat: Making Fun of Snowboarding Since 1997

“Tommy Larsen is a badass.” That’s what Zimmerman told me when he picked this shot for the Firing Squad. But after a big win on week one, Tommy’s photo met its match on week two. The good news is he didn’t have to be the guinea pig for the “these both suck” option, right? Anyway, here’s the story behind the shot.

This shot was taken on the first trip I had with the Norwegian Stepchild/Nomis team in Oppdal, Norway. I actually had three of the pictures from that trip published, including this one, and I usually never get shit published! Good times! The rider is Aleksander Walmann, a good friend of mine. We always have a great time on sessions, and we have never left a spot without a real keeper. I don’t know if this is interesting for anyone, but the picture is shot on a D700 with a 80-200 f/2.8 on it. I used two Vivitar 285HV’s to light it up, one in a reflective umbrella to the right, and one bare behind the kicker for some rim and to light up the spray.
