2011 Firing Squad Champions Battle: Skate!
By admin • Jan 11th, 2011 • Category: 2011 Champions Battle, Latest, Photo BattleWelcome to week one of four of the 2011 Firing Squad Champions Battle. Over the past 12 months, eight photos have survived the drama, trash talk and voting gauntlet to become champions. Now they will once again do battle to crown the 2011 Ultimate Firing Squad Champion. The winner of this four week battle royale will receive the grand prize: a session at the High Cascade Photo Workshop at Mt. Hood (August 5-10) and a GoPro® HD Helmet HERO™ Camera. This week, however, it’s a throwback to summer with the skate champions battle. The winner of this vote will not only be eligible to compete against the top snow photo for the grand prize, but will also receive a $150 gift certificate, good for anything at Buyskateshoes.com. We’ve already determined these photos are good, now it’s just a matter of deciding which is the best. You hold the power, so vote!

Lagos lives in Tahoe and has a super-cool name. And he shot Tom at one of my favorite skateparks. Rock and roll baby….

I really cant believe that the 3rd photo won for a champ spot. It’s bland and has no lighting, although photo 2 clearly isn’t any better in that department either, but the trick is caught decently. I guess photo 1 gets my vote then even though its the lamest trick out of the bunch there is at least some lighting and mediocre composition.

photo 3 was taken with my moms point, photo 1 is cool with hipsters and thier lame useage of high contrast black and white, plus what is that an ollie? that trick blows. photo 2 is lame and bland as shit. lets get some real photos for this battle.

3rd photo is super mediocre. Its centered and his hand is blocking his face. Sure it has a sunset (sick? not wait, cliche)… 3rd photo doesnt work for me. 2nd photo seem as though you quite far away for a fisheye shot and the dead space at the bottom for the frame is useless. Zach Griwolds photo is pretty phat though, nice b&w. Photo 1 gets my vote!

This battle shows where skating is right now in this country. The fact that #3 is placed so low and #2 so high is a sign that a weak photo of a good trick and beat out a style photo. #3 shows the classic side of style, so simple yet so clean. Well done #3

Well it’s pretty much over, I live in Vermont, it’s 12 so people around here are pretty much done voting, asleep mostly. If it means anything, I never liked JP’s photo, Cole was right, sunset’s are cliche, and a poorly lit rock in a park is as lame as time zone differences. Either way, it was a good battle, and thanks to all of you that like and voted for my photo, but social networking will always prevail.
