Eastern Boarder’s Street Games Recap
By admin • Feb 3rd, 2012 • Category: NewsOn Saturday, January 28th, Waterville Valley officially unveiled their brand new South Street Terrain Park with Street Games presented by Eastern Boarder. Thirty of the finest amateur riders from the New England area showed up to flaunt their shred game. Also unveiled for this contest were the Red Bull parallel bars, built specificly for this contest by Luke Mathison and his Watervillains. The bars saw a ton of carnage and then some live action.
The Open divisions’ Parker Szumowski and Zach Normandin showed the other competitors how to navigate the Red Bull bars, while the WUSR (Washed Up Still Riding) guys took some heavy spills early but eventually figured it out. The 15 & Under crew was led by William Vear, whose rad dad gets a shout out since he hiked half way up the mountain to watch his son slay the Red Bull bars and eventually all 3 sections. The WUSR division featured some heavy hitters including Tyler Davis, Jacques Beriau and WV’s own villain, Adam Metterville, who all showed the younger guys they may be washed up, but still have style for days.
The second section was a medium sized jump with EB’s own Jon Strobel rolling the street dice and calling out tricks for competitors to land. A switch back 540 was just one of the many tricks that was called and stomped by Watervillain Tom Peplinski. Once again Zach Normandin stepped to the plate landing a backside 7 first try making Strobel have to roll the dice constantly.
The final section featured a jib session on a smooth single down bar , flat box with donkey and a big’ol snow making pipe into a wall ride. Casey Savage and Cole Navin fearlessly charged the flat box and the down rail. The wall ride saw a couple of hand plants from Normandin and Ben Ross’s rock to fakie was near perfect. In the end, only one rider from each division walked away with the Street Games title.
Thanks to all who came out and our amazing list of sponsors: Eastern Boarder, Oakley, Forum, Foursquare, Special Blend, Coal and Banshee Bungee.
