Dave Downing Takes You Split Boarding

Though snowboarding has already proven itself a viable winter activity for those who enjoy fun, adventure, being outside, etc etc, Kim Kircher (who we assume still sleeps with the guy who owns Crystal Mountain) recently penned a blog about why the major media believes the sport is in decline and (yes, we’re paraphrasing) she hopes the fad is finally over! While we could have easily filed this under, who the fuck cares what some stupid bitch thinks, the blogosphere has been a buzz with dicussion and we’re certainly not ones to leave well enough alone.

The dudes over at NWbroweather pulled out a few of the more amazing quotes, such as “Snowboarders strap and unstrap a hundred times a day. It must get really old. As far as efficiency goes, that’s a lot of wasted energy. Maybe snowboarders are getting tired of it. Perhaps that’s why the industry is seeing a decline.” He then goes on to point out all the actual reasons snowboard participation is in decline, and if you want to feel better about your marketing job in the industry, it’s a good read.

It wouldn’t be good blogging etiquette if we didn’t note he knows about this blog because of A-Man, who is the most enlightened of all of us and summed it up simply. “Bigots and dummies like her are on some amateur shit: they think someone has to lose for them to win.”

So what does all this have to do with a video of Dave Downing splitboarding? Well, Dave Downing is a snowboarder — has been since long before we knew it existed, and he’s still doing it. Snowboarding, you see, is constantly growing and evolving, because it doesn’t have to be one way or the other. Get out there and do what YOU enjoy. If you want to bitch for bitching sake, or make fun of the other idiots out there, do that too. But just remember, this shit is supposed to be fun.

As for us, we don’t really care what this broad has to say, and we heard Crystal is a skier mountain anyway.

    If I wasn’t always dope sick or sleeping off a blow bender I would splitboard. This is some of the best snow I’ve seen since December. This El Nino winter blows harder than getting kicked off the COMUNE team.
