It’s Charity Golf Tournament Season!By admin • Jul 31st, 2013 • Category: News
Though we haven’t done a “What now” on golfing, you can bet your bottom dollar that it’s all the rage with snowboard types during the summer. So what better way to raise a little cash for good causes than a golf tournament? Coming up are two worthy events, The Snowdays Tournament on Aug. 16th in Portland, the the Devun Walsh Classic August 2nd in Vancouver. Here’s the skinny.
SNOWDAYS FOUNDATION THIRD ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
Snowdays Foundation is proud to announce their 3rd annual public golf tournament August 16, 2013 at Wildwood Golf Course in Portland, Oregon. All proceeds go towards Snowdays Foundation’s upcoming 2013 – 2014 season. Snowdays Foundation is 100% volunteer-based and runs 100% off of donations from our local community, this tournament serves as one of our primary fundraisers for each season.
This year’s golf tournament will feature a 3pm shotgun start including 18 holes of golf, banquet dinner, silent auction, player gift bags, award ceremony, and the chance to win individual and team prizes. The last two golf tournaments have been huge successes and have attracted many big names to this year’s event from sponsors such as Nike, Volcom and RVCA. We are looking forward to another great tournament!
Snowdays Foundation is a Portland based non-profit dedicated to empowering local youth through snowboarding since 2004. Founded by world class professional snowboarder Travis Parker and Portland’s Jefferson High school teacher Patrick Edwards, the program reaches out to middle and high school students from challenging neighborhoods, suffering from low academic achievement, high poverty rates, and single-parent households.
“By working through challenges on the mountain, students gain self confidence, strengthen friendships, and also have an opportunity to become more aware of their natural surroundings. The volunteers of Snowdays have all reaped vast benefits from snow sports, learning to respect and care for the mountain environment, understanding the benefits of healthy lifestyle choices, and appreciating the joy that snow sports can bring. It is our hope to pass on this knowledge, excitement, and passion to the students.”
And in Canada on August 2nd, Devun Walsh is hosting some golfing to benefit Cancer.
KNOWSHOW, Canada’s Premiere Lifestyle Tradeshow, is pleased to announce the second annual DC Devun Walsh Charity Classic (DWCC) taking place on Friday, August 2, 2013 at Quilchena Golf Club in Richmond – all to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society.
The DWCC was founded in 2012 when professional snowboarder, Devun Walsh, partnered with the annual KNOWSHOW Golf Tournament for the purpose of creating awareness and raising funds for cancer research and treatment.
The inaugural tournament put Walsh’s off season passion for golf to good work and thanks to his longtime supporters and many generous parties that contributed, the DWCC surpassed their fundraising goal
of $10,000. This year they expect to welcome 100 golfers to help reach the new target fundraising goal of $20,000, which will again be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society.
“I have come to love the game of golf over the last ten years and have always dreamed about having my own tournament. Teaming up with KNOWSHOW and with the support of all my sponsors it has become a reality. After losing my dad to cancer I have always wanted to find a way to contribute to this charity and I’m finally getting a great chance.” says Walsh.
Along side DC Shoes, the tournament is presented by the KNOWSHOW and eminent Canadian snowboard retailer, The Source. The tournament looks to bring together Walsh’s network of professional snowboard and action sports colleagues and local tastemakers for a day of golf, laughs and fundraising for a fantastic cause.
The $225 fee per golfer includes 18 holes of golf with motorized cart, lunch and refreshments on the course, a banquet supper, tee gift, range access and great prizing. Each entry also includes a charitable donation to the Canadian Cancer Society. Go Pro will once again host a Big Break style “Break the Glass” competition, and the tournament features a $20,000 Hole in one sponsored by Onni Group. More Sponsors are coming on board and will be announced as they are signed up.
Player registration is available now (as of June 2013) it is encouraged to visit www.knowshow.ca/dwcc for up to date information. Those interested in contributing to the tournament may contact KNOWSHOW General Manager, Perry Pugh firstname.lastname@example.org
