Seems it’s officially too expensive to manufacture $800 snowboards in Vermont. According to the Burlington Free Press, Burton is closing up its manufacturing facilities in Vermont and moving all production to Austria, where the not-so-premium boards have been made for the past few years.

“It makes the most economic sense to produce all of our high-end snowboards in Austria. Here in Vermont, we will continue to focus on advanced product development, which will allow us to bring the latest snowboard technology to riders faster than ever before,” said Burton CEO Laurent Potdevin.

Whatever it takes to keep that Fall bash rolling right? Hopefully the 43 people who lose their jobs can at least score a plus one.

We were so busy pretending we were in French Canada watching the Shakedown this weekend, we didn’t notice Snowmission 2010 was going down in Quebec. Luckily, they sent us a video and press release about it. Congrats to Jess Kimura and Jason Dubois taking top honors.

Jason Dubois went home yesterday with the Polaris RMK 800 while Jess Kimura went back with $2500 in cash, at the Snowmission 5th edition. Charles Reid, Franck Bourgeois, Ben Bilocq and Julien Beaulieu, made it to the men’s podium, while Joanie Robichaud and Magalie Dubois also podium.

Snowmission fifth edition wrapped up yesterday night with Jason Dubois and Jess Kimura’s victories. Jason Dubois from Stoneham is the proud winner of the Polaris RMK 800 snowmobile. Charles Reid from Mont-Tremblant takes second place with winnings of $6000, including $1000 for the best trick, alley hoop backside rodeo 7 nosegrab. The podium was completed by Franck Bourgeois.

In the womens category, Jess Kimura from Vernon BC, was back for a second year and got up on the podium highest step leaving the contest $2500 richer. She shares second and third position with Joanie Robichaud from Quebec and Magalie Dubois from Mont-Tremblant, earning $1000 and $500 respectively. The best trick was a Five-O frontside 180 out from Michigan Marie Hucal.

The 2010 edition took place under a deep blue sky and burning sun, the original course gave the crowd and incredible final heat. Also featured this year 12 snowboard companies showing up next year products with on-snow demo opportunities. A record crowd of more than 7 500 noisy people showed up to show support to the riders. To conclude this amazing snowboard day a full house was waiting for We Are Wolves, that totally rip the after-party at the main lodge bar.

Check out photos from the event here.

For the men, Austin Hironaka held it down in true Northwest style, hitting up a pillar made of cable spools and stomping a Miller Flip tail grab. The big show is today though, and good news, it’s live, on the internet! Fuel.tv will be webcasting it, which means you can enjoy without getting wet or being there.
