Best Month Ever: March
Nursing my hangover from February, March started
innocently enough. I had little to nothing to do until March 6th so I
killed time by IMing and watching Tivo. But on the 6th I hopped a flight
to Ft. Lauderdale where I was to start my Florida skate odyesee.

Tino extreme! A pro waker goes over a sweet jump and gets at least
three feet of air. |
In a rented Ford Taurus with two cute Spanish boys as
my tour guides, we set out across the Everglades in route to Sarasota, the
first park on our journey. Here we found a pretty okay park, except for
the full pads thing, and met up with my uncle, who was feeling wealthy and
bought us drinks and dinner. We ended up at a bar with the BEST cover band
ever. It was 3 middle aged white guys who randomly started playing an
Usher song, and the night was made.
Since the weather in Florida didn’t know that March
was supposed to be the best month ever, it decided to rain the next day.
We got rained out of Daytona Beach and we relegated to the Vans Park in
Orlando, where THE Aaron Reed and another pro waker were skating.
Luckily the weather cleared up for the next couple
days, because a trip to Oveido (best concrete park in Florida, hands down)
was in order as well as some wakeboard stuff, which I got paid to write
about. I even went to wakeboard alley, where all the cool dudes live, and
a wakeboard high ollie contest (yes, this exists), where I got THE shot of
the day since no one else was paying attention when the contest was won.

Tampa Pro 2005 |
March 7-10 was the Tampa Pro, which is a really good
excuse to go to Tampa. Not only do girls skate free at this park, but my
internet friend Matt works there and he got me a cool guy bracelet for the
contest so instead of watching the contest I skated the best wood bowl in
the world and hung with various cool dudes, including the OMK himself,
Scott Koerner. Also in Tampa was the beer bong Olympics, which I did not
participate in, but a girl schooled all the dudes, and the Blind video
premiere where there was free PBR.
After a generally extreme weekend in Tampa, it was
down to Miami, where I lounged on the beach and skated a back yard ramp
with no flat.
I headed back to Vermont on March 15th, where I again
I found myself with little to nothing to do. So little, in fact, that I
ended up at the US Open. Unfortunately Rachel opted not to attend, so I
was holding it down by myself. I took no pictures and didn’t write
anything about the event until right now, but I didn’t pay for a meal or a
drink the entire weekend. Oh and our intern was there and she killed it.
Since a US Open media pass doesn’t actually get you
anything, Burton decided to try and bribe the media with a media party and
free drink tickets. Since I am not opposed to free drinks, I attended and
was amused to see every member of the snowboard press in one room. Even
with a mouthful of Burton kool-aid, I wasn’t stoked enough to stay for the
slopestyle, but the weekend turned out alright and I made money selling my
US Open drinking game story to one of the people I had networked with.

Welcome to Ireland! |
Since March was drawing to a close (and not like a
lamb as that stupid saying would have you believe) I decided to get the
hell out of the country and head to Ireland to visit my cousin. On the
27th, I used my frequent flyer miles to fly from Boston to Shannon,
Ireland for free. There I was greeted with Guiness and was pretty sure I’d
remember March, the best month ever.
