It turns out that after years of being dismissed as delinquents and derelicts, snowboarders aren’t so bad after all. Enter campCARE, a non-profit foundation dedicated to restoring hope and trust to children who have been subject to abuse. Now you may say, how does this involve snowboarding?

The program works by taking children out of their unhappy and unhealthy environment and bringing them to the mountains of the U.S. Here they are provided with snowboard equipment at no cost and one on one coaching from some of the biggest names in the industry. Head coaches Megan Pischke and Jason Chatfield lead an all-star line up of top pros from around the world who volunteer their time. These coaches provide not only excellent snowboard instruction, but also role models to children who may not have any. Once they leave the hill, the children have a renewed sense of self-esteem, confidence and personal accomplishment, as well as being capable riders.

As you probably know, snowboarding is not a cheap sport to partake in. campCARE relies on industry sponsors for all their equipment needs, and the efforts of volunteers. In the past two years, the success of the program has been proven through snowboard camps at Crested Butte, CO, Kirkwood, CA, Mt. Baker, WA and Mt, Hood Meadows, OR. Youth from all over the country are the beneficiaries of these camps, and the support doesn’t end when they go home. campCARE retains relationships with the kids offering them a valuable link to the organizations network of support for as long as they need.

campCARE is devoted to child abuse and children’s rights. On top of the efforts made towards the children who partake in the camps, they also work to raise awareness of child abuse. Through the help of the media they are urging people to get involved with programs for children’s rights.

If you’ve been waiting for snowboarding to come up with a good cause, then your wait is over. Additional sponsors and volunteers are always needed to continue to provide this service at minimal costs. For more information visit www.twsnow.com, or phone, fax or email to the following address.
