Yobeat Promoshots: Where are they Now?

Since 1997, Yobeat has kept one tradition alive: forcing people to hold up a thing that says Yobeat so we can use them for promotional purposes, despite if the person has seen Yobeat or not. In the early days no one had heard of the site, but now, we occasionally get a brief glimmer of recognition out of some people. Either way, our promoshots have really succeeded in doing one thing: making Yobeat a force to be reckoned with on Google.

Recently, I was rearranging said promo shots when I realized, most of these people don’t even snowboard anymore. So I thought, why not give something back to Google and use it to find out what snowboarding’s former elite are doing with themselves these days.

jbaye.jpg (4534 bytes) Jeremy Baye: J Baye was one of the very first people who ever posed for Yobeat. Back then, he was into cars and gold chains. Well, according to Google, J Baye is now the proud owner of his very own car dealership in East Greenbush, NY, Jeremy Baye Motors.
clentz2.jpg (5585 bytes) Colin Lentz: After posing for his minute of Yobeat fame in the Killington Base Lodge, Colin Lentz has gone on to do one of two things. He’s either gotten a degree in Dentistry from Indiana University at Purdue, or become a major player in the Highland Games scene. Both seem perfectly logical and reasonable to me.
chatty2.jpg (5340 bytes) Jason Chatfield: Chatty had no idea his snowboard career would take off as much as it did after promoting Yobeat (he got dropped from his sponsor shortly there after), and I know for a fact he is now making dentures outside of Seattle, WA. But I like Google’s answer better. He is an editorial cartoonist for the Fremantle Herald in Melville, Australia.
ispiro_tnail.jpg (1304 bytes) Ian Spiro: Sadly, Ian murdered his family then took his own life in 1992, which is amazing since his promo shot wasn’t taken until much later than that.
catherine.JPG (12926 bytes) Catherine Nieves: Since there is apparently only one Catherine Nieves in the world, it’s a good thing I actually know what she’s doing now. Catherine lives in NYC where she just finished school and is currently awaiting her big break. Help a sister out.
rehbine.JPG (23582 bytes) Erich Rehbein: Erich was a NH heavyweight, but these days it looks like he’s making waves on the skim boarding circuit. Okay, the pictures were of him snowboarding on a skim boarding website but it would be way funnier if he was a skim boarder.
traveorandrew.JPG (17374 bytes) Trevor Andrew: It always pissed me off that my camera strap was hanging in the way of the Trevor Andrew shot. Apparently, it bummed him out, because I know for a fact that Trevor is now in a techno emo band, or Techmo, as I like to call it.
horwitz.JPG (12962 bytes) Zach Horwitz: Zach is probably still on the US Snowboard Team, but I think this angle better (plus it was already written for me and I just had to cut and paste): Zach Horwitz will be a junior at Columbia College of Chicago in the fall. He aspires to establish a career in the music business. He enjoys learning, writing, going to concerts and spending time with his family. He hopes to one day travel again in Israel.
Dave Lee: We all know that Dave Lee married that MTV Vjay Kennedy, but what you might not know is according to Google, he has his own successful music career now. Dave Lee is an extraordinary pianist whose musicianship far exceeds that of many run-of-the mill contemporary jazz artists.
mreilly_tnail.jpg (1166 bytes) Mark Reilly: Mark has really been busy since I accosted him and forced him to promote Yobeat at the Rutland skatepark. He has somehow managed to become a Radio Systems Strategy Engineer, COO for a financial company, a web and Graphic designer, compositor, and filmmaker specializing in digital design, among other things. Nice work Mark!

The rest of the fools who’ve posed for Yobeat, well, they still seem to pop up now and again in their respective industries, so I’ll give them another couple years before I get their real story on Google.
