Yo Beat: Issue 14: The Weekend Warrior Issue

Letters

Yo Beat is cool!! It really makes me miss the east. I grew up snowboarding in Wisconsin so I thought I was in heaven when uncle sam stationed me in Maine for 4 years. I thought it didn't get any better than that.
I forgot all about the ice coast when the good uncle then sent me to Utah for 3 years of steep and deep but I forced myself to like it.
I've been here in So Cal for the last 4 years and believe me Vermont, N.H & Maine rip this place to shreds. Everybody here can do a rodeo and nothing else. Nobody knows how to ride on the two powder days every year.
Crowded slushy slopes with L.A. attitudes will suck in a hurry. I was in Maine last winter visiting my in-laws and the kids at Sugarloaf thought I was hardcore cuz I came from Cali.
Snowboarding in New England made me a better rider and I will always come back. Don't think that it's always better some where else because it's not.

Ed: But Southern Cali is where everything cool happens, right?

Dear Yo Beat:

From reading the responses to the letters you guys have been getting, I have decided to write a letter myself, so I can experience some of that wit.
Just want to give you guys purrs for writing a magazine that is void of ads that take up half of your webspace. I enjoy those facetiously written "How To . . ." articles. They are extremely clever, and make my day. It seems like every mountain resembles exactly what you are talking about. Genius, absolute genius!

Ed: That's a lot of pressure to put on me, nah, I can't think of anything clever to say.

Pretty much your on-line magazine sucks (big fat hairy dirty) ASS.......i
mean what do u guys do for fun? Run around the east coast and find out the
latest snowboard gossip?? Don't you have anything better to do than that??
You know that there is a lot more to life than snowboarding!! And
snowboarders are not that cool..sure some are but a high % are not and you
guys seem posessed...well I am not going to waste anymore of my time writing
u but I thought that u needed a REALITY CHECK.............have a nice
life...........

Ed: Thank you.  I'll see to it that you are added to the mailing list.

Whats with all trashing Phish in your "how to look cool in a record store"? I agree Phish's albums aren't great, but having been to many of their shows I know they are one of the best live bands out there. And you guys say you're from VT??? Oh yeah and Killington sucks! Long live Burke Mtn! Just my 2 cents.

Ed. I'm sorry to hear about your condition, you'll get better someday.

y-beat throwdown.
We be rockin 4 Square and SPYS at the club (DUB is played, know what
i'm sayin'?) and all the peoples are buggin'. We gots the mad DC stickers
and sport the hardcore World Industries stomp pads on our badass Libtechs.
Too bad those wack-ass sleds blow up every year.
Peace, love, and handrails, ya'll!
There aint no such thing as a frontside Indy,

Ed: WORD!

you didn't hear this from me, being i work in the industry and i do ski reports but most of your definitions were right on the button. especially this year, but you gotta realize we have to do our best to make people wanna ride, living on the east coast you realize that there will always be ice and shitty conditions but there's that one or 2 days a year, usually mid-week when all the joeys and herbs from downstate ny are busy with their noses wedged firmly up their bosses ass, that's why they all act like complete idiots when they come to our beautiful mtns, when everything is just right, there really is fresh snow and packed powder means the snow is actually like 4 inches of soft carvable material. those are the days to live for. i guess what i'm saying is the world is a dirty place, every one lies to you and you just gotta take those amazing days and make 'em last!
ride hard

Hello. I just wanted to tell you about "snowlerbladers" term you use to
"comment" the picture of well known skiboarders placed in gallery of infamous
people holding "YoBeat" stuff. That is quite offending to us skiboarders. I
would like to see you to change "snowlerblades" to "skiboards". You see.. we
don't have wheels on skiboards, and these aren't "blades". So, I'm going to
ask you politely. Please change the term to Skiboards. We haven't dissed on
you on our Skiboarding Webrings, message-boards, etc. Even-though alot of
snowboarders entered out message boards and slam alot of insults that don't
make any "progresses". It's so idiotic of others to keep on dissing one
another because we use different equipment. Thank you. I'm expecting a reply
from you about that issue. Thank you again.

Ed: I'm just trying to give myself some sanctity after years of being trashed by skiers.  It's like when you're in Jr High, all the High School kids pick on you, but then as soon as you get to High School, you're the one picking on the Jr High kids.   It's a harsh world, get over it.
